When it comes to the discussion of generation-defining games, the action RPG "Horizon Zero Dawn" is certainly in the mix. Developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive, "Horizon Zero Dawn" was praised universally for its visuals, gameplay, story, and worldbuilding, and was yet another example of quality PlayStation-exclusive games. Having cultivated such a huge player base due to its masterful execution, the game spawned a sequel, " Horizon Forbidden West ," in , which was also a huge critical success — despite having to compete with the "Elden Ring," which was released merely days later. The game became so popular that Sony announced Netflix would be producing a television series based off the first game, alongside a similar adaptation of "God of War. If a recent leak is anything to go by, we now know where the series' story will take place, as well as what it will be called. Since its May announcement, not much information has surfaced regarding the "Horizon Zero Dawn" TV show in terms of the cast or what exactly the story will be about.

On the face of it, a lavish and original fantasy epic set in a wonderfully realised world sounds like a welcome escape from the very real horrors being played out across the nightly news bulletins. At times Horizon: Zero Dawn, the latest title from Dutch studio Guerrilla Games , those behind the Killzone series, feels uncannily like prophecy rather than escapism. Or perhaps even a survival manual. This is a world where technology has all but defeated the human race, where the most powerful inhabitants are robot monsters, and where the lead character is looking to discover exactly what happened to the grand civilisation of the past.
That urge has led me down unfamiliar paths, for better or worse, whether failing to get off the start line with Gran Turismo or taking a swing at MLB The Show. At first glance, Horizon: Zero Dawn seemed like it would be right up my alley. Maybe, I thought, it had something to do with launching in close proximity to another genre-defining open world adventure game — The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. After almost five years, I wanted to give Horizon another shot.
