Military Wives Choirs provide a head-start for women in the military community to make new friends, connect with local communities and learn new skills in a fun and supportive environment. Families of service personnel move around frequently and it can be tough to put down roots, make new friends and get to know people in the local community. Add to that the stresses and strains of loved ones being deployed away from home often for long periods, and life can have its challenges. But by coming together to sing, each choir creates a valuable support network for women in the military community.
The Military Wives Choirs will be celebrating 10 years since the official formation of the charity. Plans are being drawn up for a wonderful network wide series of celebrations to look back on how far we've come, and look ahead to the future of this wonderful network of women. Growing in strength through a pandemic. The early part of the year saw continued use of technology to bring the women of the network together through the power of singing. Despite the pandemic, the network grew throughout the lockdowns with increased membership across many choirs. Through the summer as restrictions lifted choirs were at last able to restart rehearsals in person as they looked forward to a magnificent season of wonderful music making.
That vision is no longer a dream or a hope. That vision is now a reality for thousands of military spouses facing unemployment and underemployment in cities and towns across the country. Twelve zones are now up and running which means that military spouses in Spokane, Tampa, Colorado Springs, and San Diego are more likely to be connected with opportunities, thanks to the willingness of employment partners, service organizations, chamber of commerce, state, and city officials to solve a national workplace issue.
